Trick Dog

Teaching your dog tricks is a great way to have fun with your dog, build your relationship, develop skills to entertain others, and enhance your obedience training. In the Trick Dog class, we will work with training techniques such as targets, luring, capturing, and markers. Students will work on AKC Trick Dog titles in class, and after the requisite number of tricks are mastered, a title will be given. Help will be given for specific tricks students are interested in learning, and basic tricks such as shake, high 5, wave, roll over, and others. Students need to have completed at least one obedience class to enroll.

Time: 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm

Rally 1

Think of an AKC Rally event as any team sport: You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. The dog and handler move continuously throughout the course with the dog under control at the handler’s left side. There is a clear sense of teamwork between the dog and handler both during and between the numbered signs. Although each performance is timed, having a good race time is not the goal; it’s all about working as a team while performing the skills, with the dog under control.

Prerequisite: Intermediate 1 Obedience.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community. Your dog will need to know the commands and exercises taught in a basic training class to qualify for a passing score on the CGC test. Dogs that pass the CGC test receive a certificate from the AKC and are recorded in the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Archive.

Testing is usually offered once per session. Test dates will be posted and preregistration is required.

Time: When posted.

Obedience training classes are offered as a community service for the dog owner who wants a well-behaved companion, both in the home and out in public. In the beginning obedience class, we will teach you to train your dog to walk calmly by your side, stand quietly while being examined, stay in both the sit and down position and to come when called. Instruction is also offered for those who wish to do more advanced work with their dogs or compete in Obedience Trials. Occasionally, we have substitute trainers when our regular trainers are away or ill.
